to the Office of Disability Services' (ODS) web page. Our
mission is to promote awareness of an underutilized human
resource - people with disabilities. Our obligation is to
improve academic development and independence of disabled
students.
Our obligation to accommodate students with disabilities
stems from moral responsibility and the University's commitment
to high academic standards. In addition, legal mandates, including
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans
with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), require that reasonable
academic adjustments be made for qualified students in postsecondary
education.
The ADA specifically requires that reasonable academic adjustments
include:
- Making existing facilities and programs readily accessible
- Acquiring or modifying equipment or devices
- Adjusting or modifying examinations or class schedules
- Providing qualified support staff
